Bug of the Week: The Peacock

Slide1My first post is about one of my favourite butterflies here in the UK: the peacock. This butterfly is brilliant, it’s a deep scarlet red and often behaves in quite a territorial manner. While as an adult you can often find it on buddlia, and other prolific nectar producing flowers – it’s larvae are bruisers, and eat stinging nettle (and occasionally hops). Who says butterflies aren’t tough?

As I get deeper into my PhD, I’ve found that drawing is a nice switch up from writing. Hopefully you’ll find these short little pieces engaging, informative and fun. If you want to keep up to date, you can follow along on twitter: @bugaweek or just pop-by here on Monday mornings. Thanks for reading. -P
